Recently, Roger, Justin, and I have begun working on our church constitution/by-laws/covenant/statement of faith, and I have been digging around a little in some of the examples posted on my blog. 9 Marks, a ministry of Mark Dever, pastor of Capitol Hill Baptist Church, I recently discovered, has launched a new blog called Church Matters, and several posters on that blog are current or former Cliftonites like Dee Reju and Jonathan Leeman. Despite some playful banter, the blog seems dedicated to challenging discussions about what a biblical church should look like.

I looked at the 9marks website and it's main page delineating the 9 marks of a healthy church. I agree with all of them, however, I think it omits the most important part of church life (and life in general). That is that of healthy and Christ-centered worship. If we were created to glorify God and there is a whole book (and more) dedicated to expressions of worship towards God, then why is not worship one of the most important of the nine marks? I think we need to get back to a more God-centered view of the world and see that our response and relationship to him (ultimately what I mean by worship) is what this life is all about.

Here's what I don't mean by worship: just Sunday morning service with singing and preaching and all the rest.

Here's what I do mean (not exhaustively by any means): the whole of life lived to the glory of God. Every aspect of life being committed to glorifying Him with every action, attitude and expression. Read Revelation: the nations will give him glory, we will be giving Him glory through eternity, and the earth will be purged of its idolatry and restored to a city/kingdom devoted to its Creator.

      What are your all's thoughts?

(Judging by the frequency of this blog, I will be surprised if anyone answers within a month or two
